Saturday 19 April 2025 - Sivota (Sibota?)
It’s quick and easy to depart an anchorage, just requiring pulling the anchor up. Best practice is to put a snubber on the anchor chain, when it it set. This is a rope, attached to a cleat on the deck, which takes the pressure of the windlass. Otherwise the weight of the chain could put too much load on the windlass winch. We inherited a useful piece of rope, with the boat, with a shackle on one end, all set up for the purpose. For ages, we puzzled as to what this piece of rope was for and now find it a dream.
No wind again today, but a potter 12 miles back across to the mainland was very pleasant in the sunshine. We came to Sivota last year and anchored in one of it’s pretty bays. As it’s very much low season and there are very few boats about, there was no trouble getting a space in the harbour.

Sivota is a holiday town, with lots of cafes and restaurants lining the harbour front. About half of them are closed, but showing signs of opening soon. There are lots of shops selling clothes and jewellery, along with several ice cream parlours. The hillside is lined with attractive houses and apartments, currently with their shutters closed. Locals were whiling away Easter Saturday having relaxed drinks in comfy café chairs.
There was a very nice 60 foot Oyster in the harbour. The captain, at one point was practicing flying his drone. We guessed it was a new toy.
With extra jumpers on it was just warm enough to dine on deck in the evening and watch the sunset from the cockpit. How good is that on 19th April!
