Thursday 24 April 2025 - Zakynthos town, Zakynthos (updated)
Our route plan is under constant review and revision. Today, we decided that we would move on again, as we contemplated where to spend a “rest day” (cleaning?). Although the wind was forecast to be much the same on both Thursday and Friday, the prospect of some rain was enough to clinch the deal. So we eased away from the pontoon in Poros and headed to Zakynthos town. There was little wind en route, but we did manage to make progress under sail power for half an hour.
On arrival, we had a second drop anchor and stern to mooring
of the trip. This was not quite as good
as in the first, as on the first attempt, we dropped then anchor too soon, and
ran out of chain before we reached the dock.
The second attempt was almost perfect, with the anchor chain at its
absolute limit when we were up to the quay.

Port theatre continues to entertain us, except when the perpetrators are heading to moor next to you, which is what happened today. The boat came in and I went to take their lines, but the guy at the wheel did not compensate for the side wind, and also waved away my suggestion that he aim for further away from us. The other boat ended up leaning heavily on ours when they were in, until the marinaro came and told them where to put their lines to keep them separated from us. No harm done. And then a catamaran came in, when the cross wind was stronger, and took about 6 attempts to get in. Fortunately they were not next to us, so we could feel safe.
To celebrate our progress so far, we had a slap up take away
meal, souvlaki and chips for 2, €5! Such extravagance.
We finished two things today. Very sadly, the Columba cake from Italy is now all gone. Also, we consumed a Croatian liqueur that had resided in one of the cupboards for a couple of years. It had to go.
Distance today - 26 Miles
