7 May 2025 - Monemvasia
It was a disturbed night's sleep, with strong winds coming and going at times, and a few strange noises that needed investigation. Further consultation of weather gave us targets for rounding the second (and for us the last of the current trip), major headland of the Peloponnesus, and for arriving in Monemvasia.
The only constant factor of the weather was its changeability. Headlands always cause modifications to the conditions and this one proved to be no exception. The wind varied from 2 knots to 30+ knots within the space of about 10 minutes and then back down and up again. This was coupled with long waves which caused the boat to roll a bit. Not entirely comfortable.
The cape was rounded with 2 hours to spare on the schedule, but heading north up the eastern side of the "finger" there were significant gusts coming down every valley. The speeds were very good at times and at others the engine was required.

Docking at Monemvasia within about 20 minutes of the target time, a very helpful marinaro directed us to the ideal space and took our lines. He was from Newfoundland but has lived in Greece for about 20 years. As with everyone else here, he was anxious to do everything he could to make our stay as good as possible. They are all lovely people.
In the afternoon the forecast very strong winds came in, but we were safely tucked up by then, and in the evening, we were treated to lightning in the distance, over one of the places that we might have anchored.
Distance today - 33 miles
