1 & 2 September 2025 - Elifonisos
Cape Malea, the furthest southeastern finger of the Peloponnese, is a fearsome cape to round. The winds swirl around the high hills and blow through the valleys, making wind direction and strength vary hugely. As with other capes, it’s best to round them when it’s as near to flat calm as it can be. So it was forecast to be today, but even then, the local effects meant that as we rounded the tip of the cape the wind got up and the water was swirling around. Fortunately we had everything under control.

| The route is near the shipping lanes, and we saw this tanker being towed and surrounded by 3 other tugs |
By evening the bay had filled up with yachts, as it’s a popular spot to wait to move on, whether it be before or after rounding Cape Malea. When we were last here is May, the skies were dull and the beach deserted, today brightly coloured umbrellas adorned the beach and lots of people were swimming. The sea is a great temperature just now.
Distance today - 31 miles
