9 September 2025 - Katacolon

A long day on the water, but at the end the satisfaction of being back to the gateway into the Ionian. We had been aware that getting round the south of the Peloponnese into the prevailing winds, might result in significant delays while awaiting suitable conditions.  Anyway, not much in the way of holdups so far, and having reached Katacolon, we are now into an area where we can do 1 step and then wait if we have to. Further south we have needed good weather for several days in a row.

The exit to the bay at Pylos is as spectacular as ever, reminiscent of the Needles

The early part of the voyage was motoring into the wind, but after a couple of hours were were able to make full use of the sails, and Equinox powered along in glorious conditions.  If this wasn't champagne sailing, then at least it was prosecco sailing!

After a long day, we ate out at a restaurant on the beach, and had a wonderful view of the "blood" moon. The photo, doesn't show is as red as it appeared to the naked eye.

Distance today -        59 miles
