11 & 12 October 2025 - Termoli & Pescara

After a couple of long days on the water, it was good to have a day to rest and regroup.  We were able to explore the old town, protected by large walls and occupying a mound overlooking the harbour.  It was a maze of alleyways and dead ends, although there were roads just about large enough for small cars.

The accommodation in the marina was a very peculiar mixture.  Having initially been directed to a place that was too shallow, we ended up moored "side to" (what is known hereabouts as English mooring) on a pontoon.  However, there were both finger pontoons in some places and piles, with floating lines taken back to the pontoons.  It seems like a variation of the system used in Sweden, and we were glad that we didn't have to use it without first seeing it and understanding what the system was.

The mooring was a strange mixture of pontoons, finger pontoons and mooring piles

Sunday was the last step of our journey north-west up the Italian side of the Adriatic. It was another prompt start with a good distance to go and the prospect of a ferry trying to leave the port at the same time. Fortunately we were well on our way before the ferry left.

We had chosen a day when the typical north-westerly winds would be light, it's not always fun to motor into a headwind, and it slows the boat.  In the end we had a good couple of hours sailing, when the wind was coming from a direction that it wasn't supposed to, but then it died and it was back to motoring.

In previous years it has been t-short and shorts right up to the time we have headed home, but this year has been a little different.  When we were first out, it was too hot even to be covered with a sheet at night, but we have moved through having a sheet, then a light duvet, and now the middle weight duvet.  During the days, particularly when we are moving, it is long trousers, jumpers and jackets.

On arriving at Pescara, marinaros came in a rib to guide us to our berth.  We followed their path exactly and this was very welcome as the depth was marginal, with the depth sounder showing 0.0 on several occasions, although we did not touch the bottom.  Once safely moored, and then showered, it was off to find somewhere to eat.  Oddly several of the restaurants in the marina were closed in the evening, but we managed to find a pizza place that was doing a roaring trade, and indulged in their product.

This boat was probably not named by a native English speaker
