15, 16 & 17 October 2025 - Pescara and Battaglia Terme

With some time to spare after we had prepared the boat as much as we could for our few days away, we resorted to some retail therapy.  As ever we are "supporting the Italian economy", even if some of the things we purchased turned out to have been made in Britain,  so we were helping the UK economy as well!  The range of clothing available is vast, and the prices seem very good. It was good also to explore Pescara a little more.

We must be in Italy if Jannik Sinner is advertising pasta. This ad is everywhere in the marina.

On Friday it was time to head north on the train, to the location of the party that we have been invited to. It seems that we have spent about 6 weeks traveling with this objective.  Our original plan was to get to Ancona, but the marina there cannot accommodate us, so Pescara is the best available choice. This coast of Italy is fairly shallow, and has few places of refuge for us, in stark contrast to the Croatian side of the Adriatic.

Rain was falling and therefore a taxi was required to get to the station.  The trains are super comfortable and very well run.  The first part of the trip was up the coast before we went inland and through Bologna.  After about 3 hours, there was a change from the intercity service to a local regional train.  Only about 15 minutes to wait at Rovigo before the train to Battaglia Terme.

The countryside here is a combination of flat flood plain, with some dramatic, steep hills rising from it.  The railway runs through the edge of a national park which includes these hills.

We were the only people to detrain at Battaglia Terme.  The station was deserted.  But there was only a short walk to our accommodation for the next couple of nights.

There are various footbridges over the canal
